We all know the most common traditions that we celebrate on this holiday like lighting fireworks, gathering all the family together, eating a delicious feast, opening presents on Christmas morning, and a lot of different things. But, did you know about these traditions that some countries celebrate on Christmas? Let’s find out!
Croatia:
This country has one of the best Christmas markets in Europe and it attracts more people to visit Croatia around this time of the year.
On Christmas Eve the families decorate their table with Christmas candles, and they tie around them a ribbon with the colors of their flag, and at the end of the dinner they blow them off with some bread dipped in wine.

France:
They have the most antique Christmas market in the world where they expand all their magic during this holiday.
One of the curious traditions of this country it’s a dessert that was created inspired by another tradition. Around the 7th century, when Christmas was arriving, the families would decorate a giant tree trunk, and later they would burn it down. They kept the ashes of the trunk all the year because it was a symbol of good luck. After that, a baker decided to create a dessert shaped like a tree trunk stuffed with hot chocolate.

Italy:
They celebrate Christmas with their families, but the traditions vary in different places of the country, like gifts. Usually, in Natale they exchange gifts on Christmas day after lunch but, in some northern cities, they exchange them on the 13th with the company of Saint Lucy who is the patroness of blind people. In Rome and Bologna, they open gifts on the 6th. Another tradition around this country it’s that they cannot eat any type of meat on Christmas Eve because they have to purify their bodies for Christmas day and it’s very common that families go out to eat.

Austria:
In this country, the marketplaces offer such a variety of activities to do in the family, but there is a very rare tradition that it is a symbol in the country. We are talking about a monster name Krampus. It is half goat and half-demon that on the 5th and 6th of December goes hunting bad kids, and it punishes them. It is so famous in the country that has its show that it is celebrated since November.
